In the late summer of 2011, Ryan Carson of Carsonified and Treehouse offered a challenge. They were looking for an Interactive Designer to join the new Team Treehouse and the position would go to the applicant who conceptualized, designed, & built a web app within 4 weeks (static HTML was ok, thankfully.)

My result was Recapp, the hyper-detailed, well-considered, and carefully-manicured weekly infographic / dashboard that reflected one's actions over the course of a week.

The data is real in this example, and the conclusions that can be made about my lifestyle are equally valid.

I don't get much sleep at all.

Recapp (in it's static HTML form) is hosted as a subdomain of Big Red Tank for the time being. If you happen to be an engineer or developer, and would like to bring this baby to life, feel free to drop me a line!

Cupertino-based Ongo Inc. provides a news service in the same way Netflix provides movies. For a small fee, they deliver an excellent way to digest the daily news across Reuters, The Washington Post, The New York Times, USA Today, and many more sources.

They needed my help in fleshing out primary elements in the UI of Ongo for iPad version 2.0 this past December. I worked through Christmas and most of January in an effort to make the release, and I'm happy to see it live today in glorious retina-display quality.

If you'd like a better look at the UI, the app is currently available on the iTunes store.

I designed the QVC for iPad shopping app with Kyle Martin's direction and guidance. Kyle designed much of QVC for iPhone and we worked together to conceptualize and design many new screens for our iPad app.

One of the screens I was responsible for designing fit and finish for was the all-important Product Detail page.

Update: The landscape view for this version of the app will not go live, but it remains my favorite screen to have designed.

2010 saw my involvement with Ford Automotive's marketing campaign to introduce the European-flavored relaunch of the 2011 Ford Fiesta.

They picked me, and my friend Mikey Ilagan, to represent the city of Philadelphia in a nationwide challenge. Pretty intense (and some seriously fun) things came out of this project.

I can talk for hours about how fun this project was, and how Ford taught me how to drive stick on their top secret test track, but that wouldn't be the point.

What I really learned from this year... is exactly how powerful communication and design are on a personal level, because we employed them to compete with teams from other cities. Because of this, my ability to produce engaging content at breakneck speeds was seriously challenged.

We had deadlines as short as 5 days, to do things like design entire Vinyl Car-Wraps -- or even just 1.5 weeks to plan a concert that needed to draw 5,000 in attendance -- or a little less than a month to conceptualize, produce, and film a movie.

We may not have won all of those challenges, but man did it feel good when Roxy picked my design to represent the Ford Fiesta surf challenge in Spain that August.

I'm no stranger to flying. I was born on the other side of the world. I've flown back and forth multiple times but in 2011 I seemed to clock the most time I've ever spent at airports in any given year.

2011 also marked my first experience at SXSW. In retrospect, I don't think I've ever had as much BBQ in one year as I had in this one. If only I kept track of how much I've eaten, and charted it alongside the miles I've traveled per year, it could lead to an interesting infographic.

Alas I'm no Nick Feltron, but damn if that dude and his work isn't inspiring in one way or another.

We've only just started the 3rd month of 2012 and already this year has seen a lot of changes in the first few months.

I spent two very big years at QVC. During that time, I learned a lot about mobile design and the delicate nature of user interfaces. Because of the valuable experiences there, my approach on design and problem-solving was changed dramatically for the better.

In a lot of ways, this change in my approach helped form the decision I needed to make when an opportunity to join P'unk Ave presented itself. Joining the the small, agile, and brilliant crew in South Philly was exactly what I needed in order to grow further as an interactive designer.

This year I hope to bring my expertise with UI and Design in a way that will elevate P'unk Ave & Apostrophe to new heights. Cheers!

As the lead UI designer for this app, I was able to work very closely with our development team. We scrutinized every drop shadow, button style, and all the glyphs & slider images that went into this.

These images are detailed mockups of my original design. The live version has a slightly different logo (they wanted something more feminine, and less coffee-shop-like!)

Now it's finally available for free on iTunes just in time for the 2011 holiday shopping season!
